Government Roof Insulation Rebate of $1200
The Energy Efficient Homes Package commenced on the 1st of July 2009 and was originally set at $1600. This was reduced to $1200 on 1st November 2009. (Read the reasons given Here)
As a part of the ongoing stimulus package, the government is offering free* ceiling insulation for Australian homeowners and Investors / Landlords with the aim of reducing Australian families energy bills, bringing more comfort into their homes, (don’t forget, roof insulation not only keeps your house warm in winter but also cooler in summer) and lowering the emission of greenhouse gases.
There are two roof insulation programs under this package:
1- The Homeowner Roof Insulation Program
The new guidelines stipulate that homeowners without existing ceiling insulation are eligible to have roof insulation installed in their ceilings for FREE*. Homeowners do NOT have to pay for installing roof insulation because the government is covering up to $1200 for installing ceiling insulation*.
*Any Amounts in excess of $1200 will have to be paid by the homeowner. Use our Ready Reckoner to work out if you might have to pay anything at all.
2- The Low Emission Assistance Plan for Renters
Investment property owners / Landlords are also eligible for the FREE roof insulation in their rental properties, also up to $1200. The government offers this grant for investors and it extends to all their investment properties.
A person is eligible for this Government Rebate if they:
* Are a home-owner-occupier (applies to their primary residence)
* Does not have existing ceiling insulation installed (If you have some insulation installed you may still be eligible for a rebate to have it brought up to current standards, i.e. 300mm thick)
* Are installing roof insulation to an existing home
* Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
* Sign the Complete Work Order Form once the roof insulation is installed
* Have not already received a rebate under the Solar Hot Water Rebate Program, since the rebate was increased to $1200 on 3rd February 2009
